Located in the Suzhou Central Business District west of Jinji Lake, the Central Park master plan proposes a major redesign of the park to accommodate community infrastructure responding to the increased density of residential development and developing transportation system. The landscape strategy turns its attention to the role water has played in the environment and culture of Suzhou as resource and cultural asset. This is achieved through promoting sustainable principles including redesign of the ecology around the existing canal to improve water quality allowing for greater public access as a recreational amenity. Other strategies include restoring areas of natural habitat and reducing heat island effects by creating permeable walking surfaces for increased environmental comfort and reduced energy consumption.
