The site is a 2.65 km long riverfront park along the banks of the Fenhe river between Changfeng Bridge and Zhongnan Huan Bridge. Beyond the west bank is Changfeng Park and a future cultural center including the Taiyuan Museum of Art; to the east is the city center and surrounding residential neighborhoods. The urban landscape concept positions the riverfront as a gateway between Taiyuan’s cultural past and its future, inspired by its historic architectural heritage, reconceived in a contemporary formal composition. The east bank of the riverfront is designed as a community park serving local residents. A feature pedestrian bridge links the community park with the west bank, which extends the programs and activities of the cultural center and future neighborhoods.
